New Signature Stamp - and Thank You To All

From: grumpygrinchy (ffuselier@comcast.net) | Date: 2004-09-27 16:40:53 UTC
We have been letterboxing for just over two months, thanks to the
Time Magazine article and Grumpy's recent retirement. We returned
home last week after a 3 1/2 week roadtrip from California to New
Jersey to North Carolina then back to California. We printed clues
along our entire route and spent time hiking and letterboxing
whenever we could. We returned home with 63 new images in our
logbook, half a dozen hitchhikers found and moved, several first
finds, memories of numerous beautiful, challenging, and informative
hikes and letterbox searches.

Grumpy and Grinch would like to send a huge thank you to the
numerous members of the letterboxing community across the United
States who took the time to create and plant letterboxes and to post
the clues here and on their own web sites. If it weren't for your
talent and enthusiasm, our trip would have been much less
interesting, physically challenging, and emotionally rewarding.

We planted our first letterbox shortly before we left a month ago.
We now are planning many more to share with you. Most of our
efforts will be here in California. But we have several more cross-
country sojourns planned, so we hope to spread a bit more boxing fun
to other states as well in the next year or two.

To celebrate our 100th find Grumpy drew and carved our new image-
based signature stamp. It will replace the unimaginative initial-
based stamp a number of you will find in your logbooks. We'll try
to share it with many of you as we search, stamp, and travel our
beautiful country. Thanks again to all of you who enrich this
leisure activity for us all.

Hi boxers:
Please pay attention to the post below! These people get it!
This is what it's all about - not the name calling, flames, etc that have been happening here - just pure unadulterated LETTERBOXING!
Have fun and just get out there & box!!!

That's cool. I did see your old stamp while doing some box
maintenance in General Trexler's box on 6 September. I must have
just missed you guys!!

I agree wholeheartedly - this is a great hobby! By traveling across
the states I'll bet you have seen a wonderful cross-section of
letterbox variations! Each box is unique (as is each boxer) and I
often wonder about the letterbox differences that aren't discussed on
the lists. The best way to find out is to experience it as you've
done. Best wishes for lots more exciting and rewarding travels!
(And thank you for such an uplifting message!)
